As 2017 comes to a close, I wanted to share a quick recap and a few photos from the trips that I took this year. I started my travel Instagram (@fromcincyto) a year ago as I was preparing for my upcoming trip to Australia, and never did I think that in just one year I would grow to over 5,000 followers. I have met some amazing people through the IG world, some fellow Cincinnati travelers and some people from the other side of the world. This Instagram and blog have allowed me to share my passion for traveling and my sometimes above average iPhone 6 photos. Speaking of sometimes-okay-but-not-awesome iPhone photos, let's take a quick trip down memory lane of what 2017 brought:
Australia - January
My friends, fiance (Nick) and I were so lucky to be able to spend a week and a half in Melbourne and Sydney over the winter. We got to tour the Great Ocean Road, visit the graffiti alleys, go inside the Sydney Opera House, see the wildlife (koalas and kangaroos!), paddleboard, and hang out by the beach. This was such an incredible way to start 2017 and definitely the most memorable trip of the year.
Louisville, Kentucky - April
Coaching youth volleyball takes Nick and I all over the Midwest. We ended up in Louisville a few times this year for tournaments and were finally able to take a tour at the Louisville Slugger Museum. The best part of the tour is that you get a free mini-bat at the end!
Nashille, Tennessee - May
Over Memorial Day weekend, Nick and I used the three day weekend to head down to Nashville, Music City! We did all of the touristy sightseeing during the day (Grand Ole Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame, eating more barbecue than I ever had before, and seeking out cool wall art) and then hit up Broadway Street at night! This city is a must, even if you aren't huge into country music. I think I spent most of the time keeping an eye out for Taylor Swift, and MAY have just stood outside her apartment in the rain and hopefully waited (I swear I'm not a stalker).
Orlando, Florida - June
Again, coaching volleyball took us on a trip, this time to sunny Orlando, Florida (even though it rained almost every day we were there). When we weren't coaching volleyball, we went to Universal Studios aka the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and hung out by the pool. As much as I loved being in Florida, pretending to be at Hogwarts for two days was MUCH cooler.
Minneapolis, Minnesota - July
Although we were only in Minneapolis for 24 hours for a friend's wedding, we made sure to hit up one of the biggest attractions in the area - the Mall of America! Not only is this mall filled with every store imaginable, but it also has an indoor amusement park and a zipline!
Chicago, Illinois - July
On our way home from Minneapolis, we made a pit stop in Chicago to visit my best friend from college, Tori. Tori showed us all around the city in the few hours we were there. We biked along Lake Shore Drive, took a quick detour through the Lincoln Park Zoo, and my personal favorite - we saw the bean!
Cincinnati, Ohio - The Rest of the Time
Not only did I explore other areas of the United States, and the world, but I also found some time to explore my own hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. Having lived here my whole life, it was crazy that I had never taken the time to wander around downtown and take some shots of our own Cincinnati icons.
As I look back at 2017 and my year, travels and everything else, I am filled with so much joy and hope for an even better 2018. Although I only have one trip planned (Toronto over Easter), I know that there will be tons of weekend trips around the area (mainly thanks to coaching) and I always find myself getting the travel bug and spontaneously booking trips throughout the year. So cheers to 2018 - may your year be filled with stamped passports, road trips, new adventures, and awesome experiences!
